So I presume that there is no chance to tell if the problem is getting worser - maybe by the noise getting louder or faster or occuring at other rev ranges?
 
A good indication would be oil pressure but modern car never have a gauge
 
It just came into my mind... If the bearing is replaced, what are the chances for this problem to happen again?

And... How many bearings are needed to be changed, two? What does the term 'big end' mean.

It's just the one front main shells (2 halfs) once replaced that should be it as new shells are of new metal from old. Big end is something different as that connects the piston con rod to the crank shaft.
