Very proud father today! My youngest has won a place to study dentistry at university. Huge achievement - even harder to get a place than for medicine. He's worked so ridiculously hard to get to this point, so I couldn't be more pleased for him.😃😃😃

Well done that man! :thumb:

Good to see that his hard work has been rewarded , long may it continue :thumb:

Lovely to read such a post Chris. Well done to all, including the parents for laying good stable foundations. 👍👏👌🏻

Best you get down the pub and buy him a drink or two :D
Congrats to your boy

Congratulations to you both. Seeing loved ones doing the things they want to do - and enjoy doing - is one of life’s most wonderful pleasures.

The whole experience has been a real eye opener, and makes us appreciate even more part of why there are such shortages of doctors and dentists.

Not only is there the obstacle of exam grades, both GCSE and A level, but then there are further exams/tests for those wanting to study medicine or dentistry, plus rigorous interviews, etc...

The cost of extra tutoring and coaching is eye-watering, but necessary to give them the best chance.

It's no wonder this country is on its knees when it comes to healthcare.😔

Well done !!!

Brilliant news, Chris, good on him. 🙂👍

He'll be able to practice on you and you'll enjoy mates rates in five years! Win win...

Got to love a good news story.👍
Congrats to your son - and I bet proud doesn't even begin to describe how you feel.

Many Congrats. :thumb:but couldn't resist this Steve Martin classic

Nice one 👍

Really pleased for you and your son Chris, but could never understand why anyone would choose a career involving close contact with peoples halitosis and manky teeth every day! Thankfully some do, and I'm pleased, as with my dental phobia and severe gag reflex the NHS Community Dental Service has taken me to a superb lady dentist (Indian, of Kenyan origin) who sticks a canula in my forearm, pumps anaesthetic in, I go to sleep and know nothing until she wakes me up, all at NHS rates. Waiting time is the only problem - it can be months, as it is ATM. By comparison (as NHS do not, except under exceptional circumstances) do implants, wife's implant supported lower full denture and ordinary upper denture cost us thousands!! Hopefully he will qualify and go to the NHS rather than the more lucrative private sector (or at least do a bit of both, as my wife's dentist does).

As far as we know, he has to do a few years NHS after qualifying.
BTW, halitosis didn't exist until mouthwash manufacturers need to find something in order to sell their wares.

Carrying on from this, my daughter started her Animal Management course today at Capell Manor in Enfield.
They got thrown in at the deep end.
