Hi all, only just came across the forum the other day.

I've never had an interest in cars until I bought my first car, now I can't get enough of them! I bought a Mercedes A160 2002. It's not too shabby at £425, few things wrong with it but I'm looking forward to doing it up finding parts is easier said than done, previously an avid cyclist and bike parts are dead easy to come by, for older cars, not so much... Mine doesn't have a radio (I've bought a 2din - I think that's right, Android satnav thing with fm radio and a few other goodies along with a new frame thing for it - can you tell I'm new to cars?

I've already successfully locked the keys in the car, that was £90 and it's fair to say I've spent more on it than it's cost already

Some of the electrics are a bit wonky and the screen washers don't work; the motors go but no water comes out, the reservoir is topped up and the nozzles cleaned out - I think either there's no tubes attached (more likely as both don't work) or they're twisted up. The air intake pipe has broke but electrical tape will fix it apparently and the rear window comes down of its own accord, wasn't good when the dog dived out the window a few days ago, thankfully we'd parked up... I get a lot of funny looks, it's not every day you see a learner in a Mercedes Test booked for the 6th March.

Looking forward to being part of the community :D

Windows - can be the switch pack in the centre console, they can fail and do weird stuff- go down and stick, usually switch car off then on will work to “reset” - you can get them on eBay - if you want lots of info, look up “Loftys A class info” on the net great resource. If you are anywhere in London then there is an a class specialist called FORRERA in Hammersmith- Des carries lots of s/h spares as well - and can fix auto box if it goes wrong. Great little cars -they double up as a van with the rear seats out:) we’ve had ours since about 2003/4 (but it will be up for sale soon as picking up a CLK convertible today)

Welcome, you are going to have some fun!! Briefly had a 2002 A210 last year , loved it , just like a Tardis.
One problem you will find is that the engines don't have much space to work on and a good Independent MB specialist is better than your local garage ifvtherevis something you cannot manage. My daughter lives in Hinckley so I have used Mercland ( a forum sponsor ) and they come highly recommended.
Also definitely go read Loftys A class site, even my local garage uses it if they have an A class that is causing problems for them, they work on a few as I discovered when my brakes needed attention

Hi all, sorry I haven't replied. I've not been getting email notifications. I've checked out lofties stuff it's very good, now I just need to know what things are actually called to understand it! [emoji23] I'm completely new to cars as I mentioned. It's a good little car, need to get all 4 tyres changed, they're all just at legal limit, one is at 1mm!

Ladies and Gents, I fixed the washers... The problem was actually I wasn't pushing the lever in enough, and the rear washer jet only seems to work if the accessory socket in the Ash tray is working.

Sold my A160 in 2015, had an A190 before that - nice little cars, often underrated.
I got a few Mercedes brochure, etc in pdf format - let me know if you want them.

Welcome to the forum.

Welcome to MBClub, I’m sure that you’ll enjoy sorting out your new car almost as much as you will driving it - it’s all part of the fun!

Yes my only worry is breaking something I can't repair or can't afford to repair [emoji23]
