Proximity sensors.
It’s the only feature or function that we don’t have on our 350CLK Cabriolet, (we bought it pre owned from our local Poole MB dealership with just 12miles on the clock a couple of months ago).

My other half, who drives it most, being I work overseas a lot these days, always liked this feature we used to have on our 320 BMW, and since being given a C- Class courtesy car while our car was having Alloy wheels sorted, had this feature fitted and reminded her how much she liked that feature and wishes we had it on the new car. From my point of view I take the approach of learn and know how long your car is, however that’s just my take.

Anyone had experience with aftermarket or genuine MB parts being retro fitted?? Obviously I’d want it to look as OEM as poss, e.g. fitted and painted to match body work etc. The dealership are wanting £1200 to supply and fit which I think is a trifle over the top. Particularly when you can buy kits for as little as £187.00 from Steelmate, which I'm informed are exactly the same as the OEM parts!??

All the Best

£1200 is a pretty good price from the dealer!

There is a remendous amount of work involved adding Parktronic.

Members have done it themselves though, try a Search.

Is the dealer quote for Parktronic or Quickpark (sensors at both ends and led indicator bars or just the rear with a speaker)?

I doubt you can get the MB OEM parts for Parktronic for £187, perhaps the sensors are the same (I don't know if those could be the same) but at least it cannot have the interior parts the same.

Its this kit from steel-mate.co.uk which I was reliably informed by the MB salesman, was the same as fitted to MB cars. Though I've not quite worked out how the rear Display works in the CLK Cab without it getting crushed the first time the roof is put down!

Though quote for the same Kit From MB was £500 + another 500+ VAT to fit.

PTS800MN
8 Sensor Kit 4 Front And 4 Rear Sensors With 2 Displays.

If you`re interested in that kit let me know, i deal with Steelmate and can get a better price for you.

The link does not appear right. But if you a referring to the PTS800MN set from the steel-mate site, this confirms that your salesman is an average one. This set has nothing to do with MB OEM Parktronic, not even Quickpark.

I'm not claiming the set was not good (I don't know if it is good or not) but MB does not fit these, a local MB dealer may do that.

Interesting, that may explain the non parity of price structures. :(

I'm kinda thinking if the other half really wants it then I guess we have to go down the OEM road and get MB to do it so as not screw the warranty etc... as the car is only 18months old.

Thoughts??

May not be an option, not sure. I deal with Audi and unless the car is ordered with them it`s not an option to have them fitted afterwards. Has to be an aftermarket kit. I do these and are identical to the factory fit kit. Not sure on Mercs but you may find it`s an aftermarket kit that gets fitted and not the genuine Merc one.

Thanks for the heads up Bob, all I can do is go back and ask. If they say its not original OEM but aftermarket kit then I'll be in touch!! ;)

The problem with the MB OEM Parktronic is that the retrofit installation takes a lot of hours when you have to remove, not only the bumpers but also the dash and the rear roof trim to install the displays and take care of all the wiring through the car. MB workshops usually do not want to do this. I recently was after a new car and they had one at the showroom almost as I wanted, but no Parktronic, the salesman checked if they could have it installed and came with a Quickpark offer (I knew it would turn out that way, and did not buy this car).

Quickpark has sensors only at the rear and I believe in most cases at least does not have the led display but just a speaker giving the warning about objects close to the car.

I wish you find a reasonable solution for the problem.

£1200 is ridiculous..

Decent Parking Sensors are fitted for no more than £200 per end, there are companies all over fitting good quality aftermarket kits...

This has been discused also this week on this thread & applies equally to CLK. There are a lot of parts involved &, as Diesel Benz says, a lot of labour too.

Some members have used aftermarket kits & made a very good job of them at a fraction of the price so that they look almost oem- I think 'A210AMG' has & has pictures on this site. Search parktronic or parking sensors.
Try this one

How would fitting a non MB parking sensor "screw up" your warranty? Unless they could prove the fitting of this part caused the claim there is no "screw up"

I had rears fitted to my 211, it was £300. The dealer did it for free though. Parktronic was uneconomically viable to retrofit, but rears are really all you need.
