PS fluid change ALL DONE :)

Hello,
I read that you can just change the PS fluids by pumpimg it out from the reservoir, then flushing it out four times with topping with 250 ml of new oil, then keep on pumping and replace the oil, is there any flush bold somewhere instead of filling it up and pump it etc...?
I got the fluids and will do it tomorrow if weather permitet.
Thank you.
Olivier :)

What happened to calling it 'Stirirng wheel fluid' :p

Well, what can I say, you corrected me perhaps ;)
Good morning, how you doing? Rainy ish here, might have to do it another time...

I just sucked mine out and refilled it with fresh again, working on the theory if its good enough for my gearbox its plenty good enough for the pas fluid ie you cant change all of it easily but some is better than none.

In the past i have done the above ran it for a few seconds and done it again a couple of times.

If you suck it out there is zero mess:) and takes no more than 2/3 minutes.

But if you suck the reservoir, will that not be leaving a lot into the pipes? Cheers :)

Yes but when you drain the gearbox oil you only get a 3rd of it at best and thats what most people do:).

I have pushed the sucker pipe down the pump suction pipe to the pas pump on my last car.

Bear in mind people just dont change pas fluid full stop unless theres a component failure.

Some of the trucks i see at work are knocking on the door of 1 milliom kms and unless they have had new box or pump they are on original pas fluid:).

Would be interesting to know the system capacity.

Either undo the return pipe and keep filling the reservoir as it empties or undo the return union on the rack then wind the steering lock to lock to empty the ram, then suck out the reservoir and refill.
That will only leave a small amount in the pump and feed pipe.

Should I undo the return pipes while the engine is on to force most of the oil out?

Just undo the flexible one on the side of the reservoir then run the engine adn turn the wheels lock to lock whilst filling the reservoir.

Obviously best with two people.

or very long arms :D
I might do that, if I can find a spare set of arms near by. Or I might go for the sucking and refill.

Thank you. :)

Yes, that's exactly how I did mine, after sucking the old oil out of the reservoir and fitting a new filter.

It's surprising just how quickly you need to be pouring in the new fluid when the engine's running though!

I did a syphon and refill a couple of months ago - what came out was very dirty compared to what went back in. I'll probably repeat the exercise a few more times to see if the colour improves. Just brought myself dipstick pump for oil changes so it will be even easier next time. Might use/waste more fluid this way but it's very quick and easy to do several partial changes like this.

Done and dusted. I use the pump out method.
Pumped the whole reservoir, replace the oil with new, start the car, lock wheels both ways, and again and again and again until the oil coming out was clean. Yeepee!!!!
The oil that came out was ink blak and loocked like some teeny solid bits was in it
All good now. :D
Thank you all for the advices.
Happy days ;)

Glad you did it:) how much oil did you use?

Steve the sucky pumps are excellent i had mine in my toolbox at work for a year before i got around to using it!

Oil changes on the driveway and absolutely no spills.

I used less then 3 bottles. I still have a bit left on the last one in case I needed a wee refill. :)

what oil did you use?
