I have just placed the following post relating to the Free TV Giveaways - but thought I would start as seperate post regarding PS3 experiences.... so here goes...
-----------------------------------------------------------------
Those tv's had a Manufacturers recommended retail price of £2000 - but they weren't "worth" that. OH - low and behold, they were manufactured by SONY as well.
On a realistic note, its worth it for the poor sods who camped out - good on 'em - however, when it comes to the console market, SONY have messed up big time, with the pre-release of the crappy version of the PS3 in US and the price hikes have left them priced out of the volume market.
Just to share my experiences, I returned from US this morning, and found that over there they now have many working PS3s now is stock, and the exact same 60Gb version retails for $599.99 - which equates to just over £300 as compared to our £424.95. Also on the games front, they are a lot cheaper out there.
I have just returned with Motorstorm, Marvel (Alliance of ...) and Virtua fighter 5 + spare controller and Blu-Ray remote controll - and below are the price difference:
Motorstorm (£39.99 UK) - I paid $49.99
Marvel (£49.99) - I paid $59.99
Virtua fighter 5 (£49.99) - I paid $59.99
SixAxxis Controller (£34.99) - I paid $44.99
Blu-Ray Remote (£17.99) - I paid $23.99
Total UK cost = £192.95 - I paid $238.95 (£121.77)
Main points: ALL Games on PS3 are region free - however the BLU-RAY Discs (BDs) are regionalised.
I arrived this morning, and by Argos pre-ordered PS3 waiting for me...
However, if budget is an issue - the Nintendo Wii wins handsdown for best interactive gaming.
Additional info regarding the PS3's - they have a special edition cheap and nasty blu-ray chip for the Blu ray functionality, and it is not up the same level as a standalone Blu-Ray player.
I have been lucky enough (stupid enough?) to have bought both, the Nintendo Wii when it was launched and the PS3... so will share my PS3 experiences a bit more once I have completed a few levels of the games.... so far its motorstorm and Marvel...
