I have just placed the following post relating to the Free TV Giveaways - but thought I would start as seperate post regarding PS3 experiences.... so here goes...

-----------------------------------------------------------------
Those tv's had a Manufacturers recommended retail price of £2000 - but they weren't "worth" that. OH - low and behold, they were manufactured by SONY as well. :D

On a realistic note, its worth it for the poor sods who camped out - good on 'em - however, when it comes to the console market, SONY have messed up big time, with the pre-release of the crappy version of the PS3 in US and the price hikes have left them priced out of the volume market.

Just to share my experiences, I returned from US this morning, and found that over there they now have many working PS3s now is stock, and the exact same 60Gb version retails for $599.99 - which equates to just over £300 as compared to our £424.95. Also on the games front, they are a lot cheaper out there.

I have just returned with Motorstorm, Marvel (Alliance of ...) and Virtua fighter 5 + spare controller and Blu-Ray remote controll - and below are the price difference:

Motorstorm (£39.99 UK) - I paid $49.99
Marvel (£49.99) - I paid $59.99
Virtua fighter 5 (£49.99) - I paid $59.99
SixAxxis Controller (£34.99) - I paid $44.99
Blu-Ray Remote (£17.99) - I paid $23.99

Total UK cost = £192.95 - I paid $238.95 (£121.77)

Main points: ALL Games on PS3 are region free - however the BLU-RAY Discs (BDs) are regionalised.

I arrived this morning, and by Argos pre-ordered PS3 waiting for me... :)

However, if budget is an issue - the Nintendo Wii wins handsdown for best interactive gaming.

Additional info regarding the PS3's - they have a special edition cheap and nasty blu-ray chip for the Blu ray functionality, and it is not up the same level as a standalone Blu-Ray player.

I have been lucky enough (stupid enough?) to have bought both, the Nintendo Wii when it was launched and the PS3... so will share my PS3 experiences a bit more once I have completed a few levels of the games.... so far its motorstorm and Marvel...

If Sony have messed up then why have you bought a PS3? Not sure what relevance the price structure has - all goods in the US be it cars or electronics have a different cost to the UK.

PS3 games are not region-free either. Whilst most developers allow the game to be played in all territories the versions are different. You'll notice that the PAL version of Motorstorm has differing content to it's US counterpart.

Well I'm very pleased with my PS3. Quick & simple setup, painless web connection through my wireless router, the box is stylish / smart / quiet, I like the controllers, etc.

My only 'gripe' is with Argos who delivered the PS3 only on Friday and the games etc. that I'd ordered on Saturday.

Have played a couple of levels of Resistance Fall of Man and cleared the first race on Motorstorm, OH and the kids like GT Concept and Lemmings (!) which were free downloads (along with demo versions of Resistance Fall of Man and Motorstorm).

Wii doesn't appeal to me at all, not a direct competitor IMO.

I read a group test somewhere of Blu Ray players, where the PS3 was rated very favourably against dedicated players.

I just got an email from Sony to say they were sending me a free Blu-ray disk of Casino Royale :bannana:

That's for being one of the first registered users :).
