Purchase advice on SLK 230/200

Hi all,
thinking about changing the wifes MX5 (96). She likes the SLK 230/200. To spend about £7000 ish. (About year 2000) Are there any major pitfalls to look out for with this model? Must have auto gearbox.

Honest John has a good write-up.

Obviously test drive one before you buy. The SLK and MX5 may appear to be similar types of cars but I suspect the handling of the SLK will not be as good as the MX5. The SLK is still a good car though, with the engine/gearbox and folding hard-top being some highlights.

Edit: it's possible that the 200K may actually be slower than your current MX5. Speed isn't everything, but just check that your wife wouldn't mind.
