Q re W124 603 diesel lower idler rocker

This is the aluminium jobbie that the LOWER end of the damper and spring attach to.

I have noticed mine has a small hairline crack on the outside web at the damper end.

I've ordered a replacement from GSF, due in tomorrow.

Question is this, I have popped off the cover and can't quite see what the retaining bolt in the pivot point of this ally casting is, eg std hex bolt or socket screw, does anyone know and if possible what size hex key / socket is required?

17mm hex.

I use a 1 inch piece of hex bar (17mm) combined with a suitable ring spanner to remove it. No need to remove the fan.

Hello Ian.

The hex key size is actually 12 mm, NOT 17mm, luckily I have a set of large allen keys that includes both.
