Hello All,

My 280CE would need an oil service, but since I am going to keep it, I will probably go for a full service, plugs, filters etc (and essentially gearbox oil!)

Just wondering which garage anyone would recommend, I live in London and would prefer to be within the M25 boundary.

Thanks in advance for the recommendations.

Hi Angus,

London is a pretty big place. Where abouts in London are you and do you mind travelling?

I could probably point you to a couple of good places locally to me, but that's probably no good if you live over the other side!

Obviously the places further into London you go, the more expensive they tend to be. May be worth your while travelling out slightly if you're having quite a few jobs done though? :)

Hi Will,

I am pretty central, Waterloo, I would be grateful if you could recommend a place. However, I might go to a local place just to have them drain off the gearbox oil before driving too far, as I have realised I might have overfilled it.

But please recommend some places, nice Cossy by the way, have always liked them since I was a kid. Is the dogleg gearbox easy to get used to?

Hi Angus,

There's undoubtedly nearer places, but I've found TM Motors a pretty good MB specialist for the older stuff. If you like the Cosworth 190s, there's a good chance you'll see one or two down there too!

They're based in West Molesey (not too far from the A3), so about a 45 minute drive from where you are, depending on traffic I would say.

The Getrag dogleg gearbox is great. Very strong and positive with the changes, you get used to them quite quickly I find. Perhaps not everyone's choice for a daily motor, but for my weekend/fun trips it's well suited to me.

Thanks Will,

Good to know you are enjoying your Cosworth.

Just wondering what is the cost at TM Motors like?

Thanks,
Angus

Hi Angus,

Probably comparible to most other MB indi garages within the M25 area, probably cheaper than some no doubt, but has been good overall VFM in my experience. Cheaper isn't always better anyway of course.

Here's a thread I found when looking for contact details if it's of any help:

Good luck,

Thanks Very much Will,

Will phone them up, thanks for all the info.
