Hi Guys,

Could someone please recommend a really good qualiy wax treatment. My intension is to colour cut my CL at the weekend but would like some advice on waxes etc.

My expertise certainly is not bodywork or paintwork and would be open to any suggestions. I have in the past tried the usual waxes, auto glym, turtle wax etc. They never seem to last any length of time.

Regards,

Collinite 915 for me. It's very durable and gives an excellent shine. I use it on the alloys as well :)

Slightly digressing, but for long term protection I suggest Supagard - I think MB dealers do them though I paid £75+VAT to have it done at a specialist.

Not sure if it is simple to do DIY - see Supagard - possibly so...

Thanks very much guys, the info is very much appreciated. I would sooner speak to someone that has tried and tested something rather than just put anything on it.

The paintwork on the CL can and really is described as pristine. There are two very small stone chips on the lower section of the bonnet, and thats it. The car gets very little use now, no more than 4000 miles this year.

I have heard of Meguiars, but never ever used the products. Will try it at the weekend.

I agree with whitenemisis on this, Collinite wax is absolutely superb, the durability is fantastic, and it's pretty easy to apply. If you have some autoglym polish, try polishing the car once, and then putting some collinite 476S or 915 on top, and you'll achieve a very attractive finish which is fairly easy to maintain.

I prefer to use Car-Lack 68 as my "undercoat" :thumb:

Collinite 476 use a sealant first then the Collinite on top, put a couple of coats on.

meguires 3 step system is pretty good, and what i use.

i do like autoglym aswell though.

you can of course spend £100's on wax etc if you wanted, but best leave that for the concours boys.

AutoSmart do a good hand polish for every second weekend. But Supaguards polish sponge with built in polish is awesome for longterm. Markjay was right about most dealers have the full kit and it does work really well. The pink and yellow sponge needs stabbing or blading first, a little bit of water to make the sponge damp, shoot over the whole car and leave the polish for an hour or two. Whip it off with them horrible cloths you can buy from any shop these days that have JML products for sale (By the way have you seen that snuggie they advertise now? *Amazing*)

Collonite Super Double Coat for me, lasts for a long time too.

I've just bought some of this.

Finish Kare 1000P Hi-Temp Sealant

Not used it yet but it's supposed to be the dogs dangley bits!

+1

I use FK1000p and it is a great wax/sealant.

1-2 coats to be applied after you have done all the hard work of cutting, polishing etc. It will protect the shine for 3-6 months, only requiring a wash and dry each time after to bring the shine back.

I'm a fan of Dodo Juice products. As with most jobs, the benefits gained are all in the preparation. I'd recommednd claying the car first and then preparing for wax using Dodo Juice Lime prime. This has micro-abrasives which clean the paint (or clearcoat) ready for wax. Top off with a dodo juice wax of your choice. I use Dodo Light Fantastic on my light colour cars and Purple Haze on the dark ones.

i use meguairs on the c class.
again depending on the paintwork - if it needs a good clean, the ultimate compound can be used by hand or DA. and finish with meguairs #16 wax.
both products are very cost effective.
might be worth using clay first for best results.

I currently prefer to use 3M polishes for cutting, polishing and glossing, then a finishing sealant with Chemical Guys' JetSeal109, to finish off with Collinite 476S/915 wax (2-layers). This will protect your paint for at least 6 months. In between just a quick wash and dry will bring the gloss and shine back. I have been using Collinite waxes for at least 18 years and has never failed me once.

MBs have a hard finish clear coats and I would advise to use the least polishing wax first to avoid a hologram effect when in sunlight, especially for dark coloured bodywork.

Like most things in life it boils down to money you want to spend and also time to prepare/ clean before you use it.
Collinite is a good quality wax at the lower end of the market, Dodo juice, is great, but at this time of the year Jetseal is great.
