    What's the J for, as in J6.5 or J7, is it the width, is a J7 5mm wider than a J6.5?

I'm not sure what my steel rims are, but have seen some J7's and are hoping they fit.

    Cheers.

    Simon,

I think the J is a designation of the shape of the wheel/tyre interface. You can ignore it for all practical purposes.

Rims are always measured in inches - so

    6.5 x 16 = 6.5" wide x 16" diameter
    7.0 x 16 = 7.0" wide x 16" diameter

    HTH :D

Which begs the question... who decided that the standard unit for tyre width is mm??? i.e. my tyres are 205 mm wide 55mm profile and 16" diameter.

    :p

    Are you sure?

The tyre width (205, 225 etc) is measured in mm, but the sidewall size is a percentage of the width, so surely it is a variable ratio, not directly measured in mm also?
