Hi All

I’m looking at buying another sprinter .
The one I’m looking at has 2 stickers with vin information .
The small black one to the left of the drivers seat base says gross train weight is 5500 but another sticker further to the right says gross train weight is 6300 can you tell me is the 6300correct ?

Cheers for any help

Has the vehicle been through a multi stage build? Ie bought as a chassis cab and been to a coach builders to have the rear section built?

Sorry pass then, does the v5 not give weights?

The v5 doesn’t give it for this van , it does for my current van though.

I can’t understand why it has the full 6300 on the white sticker but only 5500 on the black one.

Would a Mercedes dealer know ?

Cheers Vin

Right difference in gross train weight inc trailer 6300 or 5500 kg might be related to rear axle/ rear axle ratio??
EPC for that vin gives AR3 = 4.182 NO 741412C402215 with a note it has disc brakes and wear indicators --nothing else out of the ordinary I could see. As you suggest a Mercedes COMMERCIAL
dealer might well know. Obviously as a rule of thumb with no other details you would go for the lower number that way you can't go wrong. :dk:

Do you have a link for that info ?
I have 2 vans with 6300 gtw
One of the vins is
WDB9066332S728609

I could run it and see if the axle is different

Cheers

Vin

The info is from the official Mercedes EPC which is licenced . What I can tell you is that the rear axle ratio for the other VIN you supplied WDB9066332S728609 is
AR4 AXLE ratio 4.364 which is lower geared perhaps meaning it can haul/pull that bit more?
other wise the part no 741412C665570 is very similar with disc brakes and wear indicators. Not really up on how Merc rate their rear axle ratios wrt to gross train weight.

I’ve just found a website that gives more info on the vin numbers .
It gives all the options in codes from the vin .
It seems that on my 2 vans that have the 6300 GTW both are fitted with option QA5 which allows the bigger GTW
Both are fitted with AR4 axles 4.364
It doesn’t mention that the AR4 axle is required for the extra towing capacity but it does seem a bit of a coincidence if not .
The van for sale has as you say an AR3 axle with a ratio of 4.182
I have a third sprinter with 5500 GTW a 316 auto and it has an AR2axle with 3.923 ratio it doesn’t have the QA5option either.

Cheers

Vin
