Quick MAS Question

My car has started to show the faults that seem to be common in mercs ie the MAS is on the way out. After reading the haynes manual and having a quick look under the bonnet i cant see it. I was wondering if anybody could point it out for me. I have attached a picture of a merc with the same engine view as mines and also a picture of what i think i am looking for.:confused:

Hi,

I think your merc is too old to have one, it's normally in the black pipe between the airbox and the bendy connection.

That looks pretty much like my engine. I assume you have an early w202. Mine is 1993 and does not have a MAS either. Get that radiator checked too, mine blew up today:mad:
 
Its a 1995 C180. Any ideas on the fault then if it aint got a mas? All the same pointers ie engine runs fine and then out of the blue it runs really rough as if its gonna cut out. Turn the ignition off and it'll run fine again for a bit then rough again. Reading through earlier posts and all pointed to the mas and if mine doesnt have one the i can rule that out. :(
 
Maybe the air filter is dirty, I don't know mate, am no mechanic .
 
same engine bay as my 97 w202 c180. Mas sensor is on the back side of the air inlet pipe as shown by my arrow!

carefull when you take it out as the clips break off easily

Are you sure this is the MAS? I thought it was the air temp sensor.
 
Your car doesn't have an maf sensor, it has a map (manifold absolute pressure) sensor fitted in the ecu, try checking the hose from the inlet manifold to the ecu.
 
Thanks for all the replys guys. The car is off to an AA specialist mechanic ie the guy the patrolman phone for help when there stuck, just found out a guy at works brother does this job. Will keep you posted as to the outcome ;)

How'd u get on with this after?

Just found your post - my 250TD is experiencing what I think are similar problems...

Changed the plugs and leads and ran fine for a month. Thought woohoo
Then problem came back. Doh
Does it rarely now. Usually when I am low on petrol or when I fill up at the local Morrisons petrol station.
