"Quicker Mercs At Your Service

Formula One-style high-speed servicing is set to be launched by Mercedes this month - and it could go nationwide if it's a hit.

Five men will spend 45 minutes working on a car, instead of one taking far longer, in a fixed-price service at a London garage. It's hoped 'ExpressServices' will become even faster than 45 minutes as workers get more efficient.

ExpressService Introduced In London

Mercedes-Benz has chosen its Hampstead showroom to test a brand new service while-u-wait concept – ExpressService – that will service a car in 45 minutes.

Staff will offer customers a timed appointment for their Mercedes-Benz car to be serviced – and they will be able to sit and relax in the customer lounge with a coffee as they watch the team of five technicians service their vehicle.

If successful, the trial scheme, which is part of a multi-million pound investment in servicing by Mercedes-Benz London, may be rolled out to other parts of the UK.

Mike Lishman, market area director for Mercedes-Benz said: “The traditional approach of a car being serviced by one technician on one ramp means a full service can take four hours. This can mean the customer loses the use of their car for a whole day. At Hampstead we will be using a five-strong team specially trained to service one car on one ramp and turn a full service around in under 1.5 hours.”

Servicing will be charged at a fixed rate rather than by the hour and customers will be asked to authorise all work. If the technicians find that major repair work or warranty work is necessary, they will arrange for the car to be booked in to another service centre.

Mike Lishman added: “We have placed a lot of importance on teamwork and training to make sure the service is finished on time, but with the attention to detail and quality control that our customers expect of Mercedes-Benz.

“While-u-wait servicing isn’t new on the high street, but it is unique in the Mercedes-Benz UK network. This will appeal to customers who want to book an appointment and wait, safe in the knowledge that their car is being serviced by approved Mercedes-Benz technicians using official Mercedes-Benz parts.”

The construction of the facility will mean there are more technicians and more service ramps available in north London, and this will reduce waiting times for a service.

I think just about everytime I've had a car serviced there has always been something wrong I've wanted the dealer to look at. Doesn't sound like they would have time for that! Same for brake pads etc what happens when they need changing?

I agree that it sounds OK for the no repairs service.

ie Oil change, kick the tyres, grease the door hinges = £300.;) ;)

Suppose it means that they don't ahve time to eat your sweeties or kick the S*it out your hifi while they are working on it :p
