Just sorted out a new policy for my CLK55 AMG.

I was quite pleasantly surprised with the premium :)

Fully comp, reasonable excess (my choosing - £350) and zero excess on glass claims, UK/European breakdown cover included as standard, legal cover etc.

Garaged, 3000 miles (should be enough for me)

1 additional named driver.

£329 all inc.

Quite happy with that considering the type of vehicle/my age/location etc

'Modern Classic' policy through Peter Best.

That is good. I paid £540 with a £450 excess and £75 glass excess with an annual milage of 10K.

Sounds about right given that it's standard and the mileage.

Just out of interest I paid £255 for the SL this year with quite similar parameters e.g.

3,000 miles PA
garaged
1 other named driver
£250 excess

That's with the mods. (AMG back box, centre muffler removed, 2-piece AMG wheels) declared, Elephant.co.uk.

Major difference Bill - I'm 27 (just).

FWIW, Elephant/Admiral wanted about £800-900.

Current insurer wouldn't cover it (esure).

It works out cheaper to pay for a year's road tax, a year's insurance and the cost of an MOT on the 300TE and keep an extra car!

Bloody hell, my renewal (Admiral) is up £600+ for fully comp, 2 drivers and business use, not garaged and 10k + annual mileage..

Its about 1/2 the car's current market value..

Time to get on the phone..

Is that limited mileage guys? I haven't found an insurer yet that will over for less than say 6K miles or thereabouts PA without it becoming limited mileage.

Well, I volunteered the mileage restriction. I only covered about 4000 miles in three years in my 2.5-16 when I had it.

I guess 3000 miles will be plenty :)

FWIW, My 2.5-16 '190E Cosworth' renewal came through today (sold it a couple of weeks back), it's about £120 for the year, fully comp!

Mrs BTB is only 31 though, and has only had a full UK licence for just over a year.

(She had a full German licence before converting it, but they wouldn't count that so it looks like she just passed her test!).

Reasonable point, but I guess overall they value the risk as lower - main driver being older, 30+ and female for the named driver must surely help and I guess an SL500 is a slightly lower grouping than an AMG '55 (statistically if nothing else!)

So unfair :(. I'm 23 with 2 years NCB and i'm paying £650 on the kompressor with all the mods declared. To get ensured on the 55, just a quick search on confused.com revealed £1800 to be the lowest??? lunacy.

Geez, mine is £800, im 29, 2years no claims :(

Not really lunancy to be fair.

At 27 with 5 years+ NCB most insurers wanted £800ish for me, that's low mileage use, garaged, not commuting etc.

I think you must know that £650 is on the cheap side for your age/level of NCD etc :)

So my next objective is to get a garage... which will probably take me 5 years... :)

Doesn't make all that much difference to be fair.

Main one is the age/NCD level :)

Turning 27 seemed to make quite a difference to the premiums this year. I remember similar when I was 25.

If you were 21 or under, I expect your insurance would be quite a bit more than £650 if everything else was equal.
