I have had my R320 for 14 months now and I love it (and I know that the R class is not that popular).

I now have a broken rear side opening rear window for the 3rd time. The rear side windows open outwards, but the window is attached to the opening mechanism with glue. The problem arises when I close any of the doors - because there is nowhere for the air inside the car to go, it ends up forcing against the most vunerable part of the car - in this case the rear vented windows.

The first time, it was replaced under warrant at Vikings, Canterbury, the 2nd time it was the other side window, and MB Chelsea replaced that one, now, the first one has gone again.

I know it will be replaced under warrant, but apart from the security issue (you can pull the window open as it not attached to anything), it is the inconvenience of having to (a) go to the garage so that they can see it and then (b) having to go again to have the job done. It just seems to be a design fault.

Have any other R class or GL or ML if they have the side opening rear windows had the same problem - or is it just me!

Thanks. Moan over.

No opening windows aft of the rear doors on the 164 ML, so never been a problem.:dk:

Our Citroen C8 has similar hinged rear windows. 5.5 years old and no problems. (So much for lousy quality French cars, eh?!)

Mine are not hinged - and that's the problem. There is a small arm that goes in and out electrically and is just glued onto the glass.

Glad that your French car doesn't have the problem. Very helpful.

R Class rear vent windows

I know this is an old post but I have the same problem with the rear vent window "popping out" when you close the door on the R class. Has anyone done a satisfactory diy repair or is it a new window time??

Not aware of a DIY solution. Now that I am out of warranty, I now make sure that whenever someone closes one of the rear doors, that I either have the driver's window down a little bit, or that the sunroof is open, so that the "air rush" doesn't force the rear vents open. You should see me at the car wash when I open the roof and the car washers think I am nuts. Too complicated to explain them! So far so good.

I think this is what Mercedes call an 'part of the ownership experience' I call it something else. :wallbash:
