R.I.P. Charlie Whiting

A highly influential figure in F1. In the feverish and sometimes almost fetid atmosphere of F1 he commanded respect. It's been suggested to fill his multi-role adequately will take more than one person. RIP

End of an era, this guy has been in my life pretty much every year of my adult life. RIP dude :(

He is one of the few people, who's name became/becomes, synonymous with the sport that he devoted his career to. As mentioned earlier here, his passing will leave a mark bigger than the role within the sport. There is never a god time, but this is a bad time for all concerned and the sport that he loved.

RIP Charlie, a big loss to F1. End of an Era :(

Very sad news. An icon in F1. RIP

The only one the drivers ever called on their radios - by name.
There will be a successor (doubtless groomed for the role by CW) and we wont notice the difference, but another name for so long associated with the sport gone forever. Along with Syd Watkins, he gave his best right to the end.

Lights out and Go ! Rest in Peace Charlie.

A huge loss to F1

Charlie was so well respected in F1 because he knew more about it that virtually anyone else on the planet. Having been crew chief at Brabham when a certain Mr Ecclestone was in charge there, nobody knew more about pushing the boundaries of the regulations than he did. The ultimate poacher turned gamekeeper, you'd have to get up very early to pull wool over his eyes...
A charming man I met on a number of occasions, and one who always seemingly had the time to share his astonishing racing knowledge with those he engaged with.
A very sad loss to all who new him, and worryingly, the same age as me. RIP Charlie.

I cannot recall watching a GP without hearing the name of Charlie Whiting being mentioned. He was pivotal in driving forward safety in motor racing and it will be a very difficult role to fill. R.I.P Sir

Another one of the old guard gone, somebody who could control with a smile and a hand on the shoulder,a big loss to F1 and of course to his family,a very experience engineer and expert in the F1 rules and regs.
