Morning All,

Took possession of a 1985 R107 SL280 in need of medium restoration. My first project!

The car was sold as a non runner with a possible faulty fuel pump being the possible reason however i have run a direct line to the fuel pump terminals and can hear it running.

As the car had been standing for approx 12 months i decided to drain the fuel tank, the petrol was brown in colour? I determined that the fuel pump relay had power from the battery and so assumed that the fuel pump relay is not doing its job. Cost to replace from Mercedes is £60, can i source cheaper?

Ok, so desperate to hear the engine i tried to fire her up by connecting the fuel pump directly to the battery however she turns but won't fire up. I pulled a spark plug and i am getting a spark (plugs are sooty) but it didnt smell of fuel so i assume that fuel isn't being delivered as i can't bypass the relay in this way or that i have caused an air lock in the fuel pipes by draining the fuel?

Any ideas greatly appreciated!

crack one of the injectors off to see if fuel is getting to them? The fuel distributor can cause issues.
