Hi All
My 300SL has developed a soft-top problem and I would be grateful for
some advice as to how I can diagnose / fix the problem.
The car has been in my garage with the roof up for the past month
(been away on holiday). Yesterday, I decided to give her a wash and go for a run. As usual, she started first time thanks to the battery conditioner.
I washed / dried her down and because the sun was shining I decided to put the roof down. Roof went down ok. Went for my run but when
I returned home and tried to put roof up again, it failed "mid cycle" -
The windows dropped, the cover raised ok and roof came up fine. The leading edge came down to the top of the screen ok and lugs located in clamps ok but then things just stopped .... no familiar clicks and tensioning(?) and nothing else would happen...... light flashing on button but roof wouldn't go up further or down.
Turned off ignition, then back on again (position 2), reset windows and tried again - roof still wouldn't finish the cycle but I was then able to put roof down (cover opened ok, roof stowed, cover closed, windows raised).
Tried again, several times under slightly different conditions:
1. Tried to raise roof but this time with manual assistance when lugs locating in top of screen. Same results
2. Reset Windows and tried again .... same results.
3. Tried again with engine running ....same results.
I'm now stuck and fear the trip to the stealer in Dieppe and a huge bill!
Your suggestions would be appreciated.
