R129, 280, alarm setting

Hi first post with this model 1996 SL280 when I activate the mercedes key fob
the central locking works the windows shut when the button is held down but no red led light on the interior mirror.If I leave a window open then lock the car I can open the door without any siren sounding the car recently had a new battery and the windows had to be syncronised is there something similar on the alarm system.
Any ideas please.

The alarm system and the central locking system are essentially 2 separate systems. The alarm is armed /disarmed by locking/unlocking the car not by the remote itself. It appears your alarm system may have been disabled for some reason- possibly because its faulty or going off too often. If its of any comfort the car may well be still be immobilised and cannot be driven off. Try starting it without "disarming/unlocking" to test this

I have a 1990 R129 300SL and last year had a similar problem - many suggestions but nothing worked. Then someone suggested changing the fuses (which all had oxidized terminals) - I duly changed all the fuses. At first, I still had a problem but after a couple of days everything worked correctly. There are a lot of fuses but not expensive (a few euros at the motor factors). Might be worth a try.
