Hi all

I’ve managed to get a AMG back box for my r129 however the existing exhaust is all one pier from the cats back. What sort of rough price should I be paying to have the mid box deleted please ? Not something I’ve done before.

TIA

I had mine done at the nearest branch of Longlife Exhausts - initially I just had the back box swapped for the AMG one, then later on I had the centre muffler removed. Cost was £129 each time (a bit strange as there's more fabrication involved in removing the centre muffler as you need a Y pipe there to replace it). Done while I waited both times.

I believe the AMG back box is intended to go with a body kit - my car doesn't have this, so the tail pipes looked too low (designed to clear a rear skirt). So I took it to a body shop, who cut a section out and re-welded them. Longlife weren't interested in doing this.

Thank you that’s really helpful. I managed to purchase the AMG kit/OZ alloys/ exhaust off a very kind forum member. I was excited to at least put the exhaust but sounds like I need the kit on at the same time ?

I think ideally yes, although the exhaust should go on OK without the bodykit ... it's just that the AMG tailpipes would look a bit odd sitting that far below the stock rear bumper (as in my first picture). I wan't going to put a bodykit on my car, hence modifying the tailpipes.

As an aside yours looks like an earlier style of back box, with rectangular tips rather than the oval ones on mine. Did the kit come off a car of similar age to yours?

Hi the kit came of a similar aged car so should be ok, the only thing I’m missing is the ducktail which was glued down way too well. The fitment on yours looks spot on
