Hi All

I have a silver R129 SL 320 with colour code 744 (Brilliant Silver), to me the whole car looks the same colour of silver

It is in the shop at the moment just being prepped for a respray. The body shop feller tells me lower panels are a different colour and mat compared to the metal areas on the car which are 744 (Brilliant Silver which is shown on the cars driver side info plate)

Can anyone give some guidance on how I can identify what the proper colour for the lower panels should be ? vin number is WDB1290632F163340 if that helps

Thanks

Jon

Can you confirm what year? The VIN suggests it's a facelift car.

The bodyshop are mistaken then, they're trying to use the pre-facelift colour scheme.

dont you have any paperwork to confirm its age ??

As Doodle said, if it's a post '96 facelift car (easy to tell) the top & bottom are the same colour.

im fairly sure the plastics are a satin type finish , i think the amg had gloss finish
no doubt i will be corrected if wrong ))

AFAIK all Pre-facelift R129s had a different shade & finish on the plastic panels. After that they were the same top & bottom though. This is the car that originally inspired me to look at SLs ... it parked at the end of my road every day :)

if the same colour then it may be a satin or matt finish that gives it a different appearance as said already

obsidian black has a green hue which may become more prominent as the paint fades

That's exactly the style of mine though better condition - beautiful. What colour is the rad grille? Mine has quite a tarnished grey green appearance which doesn't really match rest of car
Looks black in the pic but is a dark grey , maybe faded as Grober says..

Well thanks for your help and advice folks, she should hopefully be in primer by next week
