Hope everyone has a good Christmas

Wondered if I could ask the SL specialists something regarding the small digital temperature display (above the thumbwheel ) within the climate control cluster of switches ?
Does anyone know if this display has it's own bulb ? The rest of the buttons are illiuminated fine, but upon getting in my car Christmas evening, I noticed that I could no longer see the temperature read-out.
Thanks in advance

As far as I know there is just the one bulb - the LCD is probably backlit by itself? Shouldn't be hard to take apart and have a look.

All parts of the instrument cluster on a 129 are available seperately, repaired one a few weeks back. But should be just a bulb in this case.

Thanks for your input guys - Any last minute tips on removing the cluster of buttons ? The last thing I want to do is startbreaking clips etc... Does it literaly just pop out ?

I'll be interested to find out how you get on with this one, as the backlighting for the LCD is also not working on our .067 either!

DolphiN Tech - I'll let you know how I get on !
television - Great link, thankyou. My unit is the one on the right : Is the diagram implying that both types on aircon / climate control use the same bulb ? The system on the left seems to have a lot more 'exploded' parts....

Carefull when you slide out the unit , they are easy to crack.

....as if I wasn't a bag a nerves already !! Thanks for the advice - I'll be very careful

They don't easily crack - i think he's getting confused with the instrument cluster glass. You'd have to be VERY ham-fisted to crack the aircon control unit when removing it.

Well that was a fun filled 3 hours !! I think I just need to accept that I'm not cut out for DIY repairs, no matter how small.
First off - STATS007 : When you said the unit slides out in the same way as single-din radio, we couldn't get any further than removing the facia that houses the buttons....The unit itself stayed firmly in place. Are you certain that this isn't held in by some kind of bracket, or special removal tools are needed ?
The only good news is that it was just a single bulb that had blown, and I now have an illuminated temp. display ( pity that the actual temperature value has now disappeared and the majority of the buttons wont relocate properly !).
DolphiN Tech - All I can say is that to attempt this you've either gotta have bucket loads of patience, or be very DIY orientated. I'm not saying its dificult in essence, but the plastic is very britle and the control unit itself is very expensive should you inadvertantly damage it.
After several hours I'm now further back than where I started!
Help !!

understood - I assume they go along the sides of the unit ? Does it matter what make of radio the removal tool is from ? Sony are different from Kenwood etc etc
Thanks

Thanks for the warning, might not actually bother now, especially if the car is being chopped in for something newer with similar muscle (M5, XJR, M113 block SL500)
