R129 electric aerial issue

Stuck halfway, won't park or extend fully. Still getting reception, though. Tried a bit of WD40 but no dice. I can hear it trying to work and it kind of wobbles, but still it stays. Very annoying.

Any ideas?

It's time for a new mast. They're 20 something quid from a dealer. When you are there, get some of the little cleaning sachets to stop it sticking in future. If you do a search on this site, you'll find how to replace it, it's very straightforward.

Good point. It should be obvious by the noise it is making what has happened. If it sounds like the motor is running freely, then it's probably the belt. Otherwise probably the mast. There's another recent thread about buying spare parts for Hirschmann aerials.

Usually one of 3 things.

Belt snapped
Mast seized
"Peg" on drive wheel snapped off

They are all related as the belt and peg take the strain if the mast is not moving properly.

Might be nothing wrong and just a clean up/freeing needed as the clutch is operating too soon.

My post re parts has an exploded diagram attached now so you can see how easy is it to take apart and check. also has the part numbers and spares supplier details in it.

Nick Mercedes sometimes has stock of the whole thing at £50-60 (none right now).

About £120 complete from our dear dealers....who will tell you only the mast is available as a spare!
