Hi have a 1998 280sl boot lock wont work with key. Battery drains with alarm, so have to leave boot open to get at the battery. Are there any good auto electrics firms in the South East??????????

The boot lock is not electric, all the locks are manual. Unless it's seized, turn the key and push. You need a locksmith, or some spray lube may help.

If you want to power up the C/L then you need a jumper cable to earth and one to the alternator or starter motor. You may be able to hook your charger up to these points to get some juice in.

Careful jumping, follow the instructions in the handbook, voltage spikes can cause untold damage to the ECUs.

thanks for reply, i know those things, but it goes deeper than that, need a very good auto electrician, tried three all useless.

So what are you trying to fix? Is it the battery drain?

http://www.sileck.co.uk/ produced an engine loom for me and very good too, seems to know his Mercs.

the boot opens with the transponder if you push the button and catch the lock at the right time, it clunks and you press the button it opens, dont catch it as it clunks then you have to lock the car and start again, real pain.

It actually sounds more like a mechanical problem than an electrical one.

Operating the remote will activate the C/L vacuum pump, pump powers up and opens/closes the all the locks.

If you physically turn the key it should open the lock, it also trips a micro-switch which powers the C/L vacuum pump.

If the vacuum pump powers up it's not electrical, it's a vacuum or lock problem. The boot should still open on the key though.
