I have just given my SL320 its first good run this year, and have noticed an excessive delay in response when I floor the pedal to the kick down switch. Thereafter, acceleration is poor and worse still, after this there is a noise which at first sounded like a hole in the exhaust and/or a misfire, accompanied by signifcantly reduced power. However, after switching off and then restaring the engine the noise/misfire disappeared but then going through the same routine of flooring the accelerator produced the same noise again, which remains until the engine is switched off, and once again seems to have cleared when the engine is restarted.

Over the winter, I had the battery disconnected for a long period.

Any thoughts or suggestions? Is this an engine management problem caused by having the battery disconnected for a long period perhaps?

The car is late 1998, with the V6 engine.

Any advice welcomed.

Thanks Television,
Is this the Mass Air Flow sensor? Can you point me in the right direction to find it.

Sorry - but the last car that I took much notice of what was actually under the bonnet had an A series engine!

Problem solved

Just for reference in case anyone has similar problems. MAF and one HT lead replaced - the car now goes better than it has since I have owned it!

Hi, I have a 300SL 1992 12 valve with similar issues. Does anyone know if this has a Mass Air Flow meter and where it is located!!!
Thanks

Hi

My c270cdi (2002) has the same problem. I am going to get air maf replaced but can I ask what a ht lead is?

Thanks
