R129 or R230 with rear bench?

Whats distronic?

Excuse my ignorance.

Very few cars in the UK have it.
Its a Radar cruise system, when you engage it, you set the distance that you wish to keep from the car in front, if all the traffic slows down, then your car slows down, it it all stops, then your car stops and moves off again on it own when the cars in front move off

Thanks.
Have heard about it but not familiar with the name. Makes sense now.

Should we mention it on the ESP thread?:bannana:

Its been up a few times and I doubt if there more than a few hundred cars in the UK with it. It does not use ESP to make it function. Distronic seldom stops you that quickly as it senses it before you can any change in the speed of the traffic, if it cant cope it sounds a warning and you can take over

It was just that somebody on that thread didn't want driver 'aids'on his car and there was a bit of a discussion.

You are welcome to put it there, then couple this up to the Lexus steering system that follows the white line in the road, and you can send the car away on its own :)

My 129 was silver with the Pano roof, and that looked nice, I do not like it on the 230 on a silver car, fine on a darker colour, but thats me

The panny's on the 60 which is silver and does look great...the new roof will be on almandine red which I think will look ok.

Distronic is something I could happily live without.

Not at all - it encourages bad driving. I don't use cruise control either - never have done.

I always drive with a good distance from the car in front as I dont want stone chips, I like to see where I am going, I keep the wheels clean as I dont use the brakes as much, I dont smell exhaust fumes, and its safer.
With distronic it gives me that fixed distance without thinking

Speaking as a R129 owner with two small kids, I would have to say that you would be better off with a CLK Cabrio.....Can only get one of them in the rear, as there is no leg room behind the drivers seat...i'm 5'10. Even with just the three of us on board the passenger seat has to be pushed forward, making front leg room cramped, so much so that if its just one of the kids and two adults in the front, the passenger seat occupants knees are touching the dashboard.

Trying to put a bulky child seat in the rear and then having an adult in the front passenger seat would be highly uncomfortable for all, especially when the youngster starts to kick the rear of the passenger seat as they all have a habit of doing......get a CLK

Interesting to hear another perspective on this.

Our kids are 5 and 7 and fit in the back of our R129, no problem. I'm 6' 1", and certainly have to move the driver's seat forward to make more rear legroom but I don't find this a big deal. And there seems to be a huge amount of legroom for the front passenger ... I'm quite comfortable there if my wife is driving and the kids are in the back. We've even given my mum a lift, with her in the back behind the front passenger seat! The seat memories are really useful in this.

But I'd certainly agree that a CLK would be more practical :)
