R129 pre facelift to facelift

Hi all

could you kindly advise me if the boot lid on a prefacelift car can be retrofitted with a facelift car ? Would I also need to change the rear light cluster (plus wiring for high level)

Which facelift are you talking about?

I would guess basic body panels like the bootlid remained the same for the life of the R129, but I don't know that for sure. The revised rear light clusters that came in with the 1999 model year certainly go straight onto earlier cars as quite a few people fitted them as an 'upgrade'. I've also seen earlier cars with the later oval door mirrors fitted in place of the original rectangular ones.

Body panels should be the same. There may be a third brake light which could be different.

Yup the high level brake light was an option but became standard later on ... '99 facelift maybe.

The high level brake light is just an extension of the brake light circuit, a pair of wires passing through the lid hinge. The tail lights should just swap over too..
