R129 sl320 40th anniversary limited edition
Hi all

Here is my r129 40th anniversary sl320 that i purchased June 2021 completely standard and owned by another mercedes enthusiast

Since purchasing the car I have carried out alOT of work to make it my perfect r129

(It won't be to everyone taste but ive kept ot oem ++)

Hope you like the car

Modifications I've carried out

Custom made 1/1 16" evo 2 centres then built to a 18" wheel. 2.5 front lip and 3.5 rear lip. These are the original evo wheels chopped up they are a complete new machines centre by tt_polish in Germany

Airlift 3p management
Air bags by airlift
Front shocks and camber top mounts by intermotiv
Bilstein rear shocks

Made some 3mm ali front plate to protect the lower part the bumper incase you wondered what the bumper lips are. Also gave installed a ali undertray to protect the sump and underside as the plastic one wore thin.

I have also stripped the rear lights and converted the side light to led and tint sprayed red. I wanted to give it a futuristic look at night and suit perfectly imo

I found a hardtop in a skip and decided I need to do something special with it. As we all know the hardtop is a heavy to remove and need somewhere to store. So i Managed to source a mgb britax openair roof. Then proceed to fully strip it and rebuild it, sent it to a trimmer who remade the fabric top in original mercedes blue fabric mohair to mate the soft top roof

Car is still in the factory colour that is just incredible and stands out since paint correction and ceramic coat.

Maintenance wise I've replaced every suspension component, new discs and pads all round. Just recently replaced the common leaky c gasket along with all the valve gaskets.

Only had one issue with the car in the year I've owned it...... lost all drive at the traffic lights. Classic switched it off and back on and it was fine for a week then went into limp mode holding it in second.

Decided it was time to get the gear box serviced and see if there was any issues that could cause it. Gear box oil, filter and the electrical plug replaced but whilst removing the electrical plug sleeve the little bolt spun in the conductor plate. Few hundreds pound later a new conductor plate was installed. Since then it's silky and smooth plus still pulls well for a straight 6.

Wish I had started a thread from day one. But here are a few pictures and hope you enjoy.

You have carried out some fabulous work with this, the “webaso“ sun roof is a nice touch too. Not too keen on the new stance but that’s just mho. Enjoy it.. thanks for sharing..

Lovely cars they are but it’s a shame you bought in great condition and standard but then turned it into Ali G’s car. 🤨

It does look nice though.
Every part the car can go back to stock. Nothing been modified to allow for modifications all built around the car

Not entirely to my taste but that's neither here nor there and it looks like you've made a good job of it!

You did cut up a set of pretty rare Ceginus pattern wheels though (people call them evo because they were standard on the 190E 2.5-16 Evo saloon)?!

Nope no I didn't cut any wheels up. They are complete custom made. This is how they started
My original wheels are tucked up in the garage

Nice work, your ride, your choices. Love the rear lights. Shame you had the gearbox trouble. Who supplied the rear suspension arms. Have fun and ignore any negative vibes.

The gearbox conductor plate is a common problem (I had it on mine), but at least relatively cheap & easy to fix. No negative vibes intended from me ... cosmetic mods. are always subjective, and will never be 100% to everyone's taste. But we can still respect work that's been well carried out.
