SLK320 R170
Hello, i have taken off my front wings and discovered the front of each wing is no longer attached to the car, its not just the wings though, its also the bracket welded to the inner wing that has rotted away. i managed to drill the welds and take off the offending part and discovered a number on the back of it, the number was 003 then a merc logo and then the letters Y and P. Does anyone know where i can get this part from as i have looked on the parts catalogue and it shows the outer wing panel and the inner wing but not the part i need that is welded to the inner panel that the outer panel bolts too through the bumper.

Hi Got a 320 with same issue. 2 things Where did you get new wings and did you get anywhere with the bracket
Regards
David

You may have to get them fabricated. ECP do wings btw.

I have never bought any so no idea, sorry.

Looked on ecp showed no wings guess have to call them. What did they cost you

Have a stiff drink first. Wings for R171 are well in excess of £300. Each! No pattern parts available neither - not sure about R170 though

I have made cardboard templates for the bracket and wing lip and made my own and welded the newly fabricated bottom lip to the front wing and cut out another patch of rust in the bottom of the wing and welded new steel in it and made a bracket using 3 pieces of mild steel bent as close to original shape as possible with hammer and block of wood and am currently skim fillering and sanding the wing now ready for primer. I had nothing to start with but cost of cheap welder and small sheet of mild steel along with filler and sand paper cost less than one new wing and I need to do both fronts so it works out cheaper this way for me. Painting will be the interesting part as my paint code says 372 but my metallic paint looks slightly darker than the test paints I've seen online and car has got over spray from a previous spray job in its past life. Could end up with different shades of blue haha. Stopped the lockdown blues though so it's all good.

Ebay have new wings for earlier version pre2000 facelift, but still need to blank off the side repeater hole and fettle it too fit as with all patent parts.

And as far as I can see, you cannot buy the inner bracket anywhere. And all scrapyards I called had them on the car but they were rusted out like mine so it has to be made from scratch. I still need to buy 2 nuts and bolts and weld the nuts to the bracket I have done a flat bottom on the bracket and will pass the bolt for the wing through the bumper aswell, slight mod from original spec but it was easier.

I have now welded the new lip to the bottom of the wing, skim filled, sanded and primed and flatted the primer, now needs colour coat and clear coat then I can knock that off the list that needs doing.

I bumped into a car at a roundabout. The damage was to the grille and also scuff marks on the bumper. 350 SLK 2007. Any ideas as to how much a grille will cost? I think I will just have the bumper polished. Also I have rust blisters on the wings of the car. Should I buy new ones and if so, any ideas as to the cost of them too? Thank you.350slk.jpg350slk1.jpg

New wings over £300 each!! And nobody makes pattern parts for this car :(

You could just repair it yourself, I've just cut the rust out, welded in new metal, made a new inner bracket, repaired and resprayed one wing on my SLK320 for the price of a professional to do it, and I still have all the stuff now to do the rest of the car where rust is bubbling except for paint and clear coat. So now future repairs will cost the price of paint and lacquer and some of my time. Much cheaper in the end. IMG-20200528-WA0001.jpg

All that work and some previous owner has used a different colour to the original paint so it doesnt match, grr.
