Having recently bought a 2007 R230, seen many too low mileage ones in my specialists garage around this time, and heard all the horror stories about the ABC suspension i did some digging and found this on eBay:

Mercedes AMG Shock Strut Front Abc Chassis Repair all Sl R230 | eBay

I've done some research and have saved the company's website on my computer abcteile24.de - ABC Fahrwerk Mercedes Benz und AMG Fahrzeugtechnik . Sub £500 for an ABC shock much better than £1,000+.

Or if you have a major ABC failure a coilover conversion is another option for around £1200.

Surely a coilover conversion would devalue the car by more than the saving, though? :)

I don't know but with ABC getting such a bad press, unfounded IME, then a conversion could make the car more saleable.

This car is my first with ABC suspension and I love it. I actually believe it corners better than my wife's Mini cooper S. I also have a 1999 R129 without the ADS and you can feel the weight of it at roundabouts unlike the R230 with ABC so I will never change from the ABC. Glad now to know that it won't cripple me to change it now.

Yes, I’ve saved them to my favourites and I’ll be buying from them if I need to - I’ve had good communication from them.

Agreed - I remember the first time I drove my 215 CL I was amazed at how supple the ride with ABC was, but it cornered so flat it was like it was on rails.

Also useful to have the adjustable ride height and different suspension modes.

If I was looking for an R230 I wouldn’t be likely to buy one that had a cheap aftermarket suspension kit installed, and I suspect I wouldn’t be the only one :)

Is there anyone in the UK offering a similar service, to strip and refurbish existing units?
