From lots of research it seems the door speakers on the SL are able to be swapped but the question is what speakers are good for the job and fit without the need for a custom pod to be made?

As I understand it there is a 6.5inch mid/bass speaker and a 4inch tweeter. I have some Rainbow Audio speakers in my gf's Mini and they sound great so maybe a set of them?

Also can I fit an active compact sub under the seat? Are there RCA's on the back of the H/unit to connect to?

Any help or advice is appreciated.

The speakers are very different for the basic system, the BOSE system, and the HK system.

There are no RCAs.

If you have BOSE there is an amp under one of those rear boxes. We build a custom foot-well sub (for later cars) and have a favorite ready built one for earlier ones where there is a bit more space, but this is dependent on what options you have in the car too

Cheers

Hi Richard. I have no Bose and its an early car so I presume I have the basic set up. Do I have options still?

Yup. Basic system is a 3 way, and we rebuild decent speakers into those pods. Add a nice small class D 5 channel amp, a sub, and it sounds super (2 channels for each door and 1 for the sub)

Cheers

Richard

PS, come and see us in Lightwater (10 mins from Bracknell)

Hi Richard I know Lightwater well as I have friends there so I'll pop in when I get a chance - i'll call first to make sure its convenient.

Thanks for your help BTW
