R230 Rear fog lights. Question ?

While carrying out a routine lights check I’ve noticed I only have one rear fog light ie on the offside.

Is this the norm for Mercedes just fitting one bulb. My CLS of course has the rear fog mounted centrally so I’ve no comparison to make.

All my previous cars had fog lights on both sides.

Next question of course is if it’s a failed bulb do I have to remove the tail light cluster to get at the bulb.
I’ve looked into the boot and there is an access panel but this appears only to gain access to the tail lights and brake light.

Any Mercedes I've had only ever had one rear foglight, apparently it's safer than two according to MB. No reason to doubt them.

I thought that may be the case but I’m a stickler for uniformity but then again since rear fog lamps were introduced back in the 70’s I will be lucky if I’ve have used them in earnest any more than half a dozen times.

Strange but I just noticed this last night when following the missus home. I was in the SL behind the CLS and my lights could pick up the rear fog light to show the LED lights are actually on the right hand side of the long lens which is mounted centrally.
When the rear fog light is on it obviously spreads the light across the lens.
Full marks to MB though for the styling of the CLS.
On another note I was picking up my son & his missus from the Pink concert in Glasgow and it was my full length rear brake light which guided them to the car in the street.

On my cls which is a 219 not a 218 you have to replace the complete bulb panel and all the bulbs to change any bulb in the rear light cluster. How mad is that. I have not checked the SL but its aboutthe same vintage so may be the same.
