I've just bought an R230 SL350 and my wife and I have just booked to go on a driving holiday into Northern Spain and Southern France in May/June. My question is: Is it possible to switch the headlamp directions over for Continental easily oneself? I've only had to do it in E39 BMWs before and in those it's just a flick of a little lever from one side to the other and takes literally 30 seconds. Many thanks.
Plenty of SL230 owners on here, hopefully one will see and respond soon. Sent from my SM-G955F using Tapatalk
Be aware that if we leave the EU without a deal you will need 2 different International Driving Permits to drive to Spain
Many thanks I haven't seen anywhere in the Handbook that tells you how. In fact, on double checking now I can confirm that the Handbook absolutely DOES NOT tell you how to do it yourself. Instead, like most things in this book (!), it refers you to seek a Mercedes-Benz Service Centre! There's almost bound to be some night driving involved, at some stage, as at the end of the time in Spain we're going up to our house in SW France for an open-ended period of probably several weeks. I have got an E39 BMW over there already with its lamps set for driving there. So, maybe that's the solution....Minimal night-time driving or just 'wing' it in Spain in the SL if I have to. Then once we get to France if I have to go out at night (which will be rare) use the BMW. If we really have problems as basic as that (i.e. restrictions on driving licences) already in place by this May because of Brexit, then this country is well and truly sunk and my driving holiday will be the least of my problems! LOL!
This possibly answers my question. But, it takes a long time to get to the answer! Bottom-line is, it seems there may be a hard to find little lever after all! Change Xenon lights to right hand driving I'll have a look in daylight soon! Thanks again
There is a small lever which moves a flap, effectively flattening the beam. They are quite fiddley and can easily be broken. I normally get my MB specialist to do it for me.
Thanks Chaps! With several people saying that they are quite easy to break and the fact that any night-time driving can be kept to a minimum, especially because of the time of year, I think I'll just leave well alone and 'wing it'! LOL!
LOL! The last time I walked into a MB Main-dealer and did that I had an AMG C55 Estate that was covered by their full, Comprehensive Top Tier Warranty and thought I was invincible and that they couldn't charge me for anything. About half an hour later I was walking out £180 lighter for a xenon headlight bulb replacement! "Not covered, Sir!" LOL!
I've looked into this more closely now. Just as an insurance, for the nominal cost, the fact they're valid for 3 years and that we actually have a house in SW France, I think my wife and I are going to get these!
