Dear All

Happy new year

A pal at work is having trouble with his SL. he has a 'battery problem' coming up on the display and is having difficulty with Keyless Go, starting on the Start button, central locking etc not working. The car will start fine on the key once you have unlocked it on the key.

Any ideas from the limited info on the fault and possible solution - if it's battery any special consideration replacing it?

Thanks

Sean

Check for water in the boot. Very common issue causing KG issues. The battery problem maybe it just needs a new one or thebattery control unit is duff. The BCM is located in the boot too. All repairable.

Thanks Olly. Is there a mod to fix the seals to the boot, and if so how practical/pricey is it to do?

the battery problem (consumer electrics offline) is common if the car isn't used a lot (more so in cold weather) - a charge overnight every few weeks will keep it fine unless the battery is stuffed.

The keyless problem - when you say "opened with the key" do you mean physically with the pull out key? If so, that indicates the PSE pump in the boot has gone - works central locking & comfort seats. It is not repairable and costs about £800. The fuse is under the false floor of the box behind the driver's seat - about the middle one, yellow 20A sits on its own.

Boot seals are an issue - they can be sorted, no specific mod as such, but I can point in the right direction if there is water in the boot

Remember that the R230 has two batteries. The engine starts with the starter battery at the engine compartment but KG would work on the consumer battery. Perhaps the consumer battery is bad, not properly charged or there is a fault in the car causing excess battery drain (would drain the consumer battery).

^ absolutely. Even with nothing "wrong" the damn thing will go below the level to cause the error message if it's sitting unused for anything more than about 4 or 5 days.

Ixi,
I would be interested in sourcing seals for the roof, doors and boot I you are able to point me in the right direction,

Thanks in advance
