R231 SL Stowage Compartment Light

Hi - question for fellow r231 owners about the stowage compartment under the centre armrest. (my car is 2014)
This compartment has a light inside which comes on with the cars headlights.
Recently I noticed that the light is on when the compartment is shut (you can see it through the crack in the 2 lid/doors)
I would have expected this light to turn off when shut (like the glovebox does), and it looks like there are 2 interlocking switches, one for each door which push down when shut.
I’ve tried activating those switches manually but the light doesn’t go out!
I don’t have another SL handy to compare with so please can any r231 owners tell me if theirs does the same and the light stays on when those lids are shut?

Just checked and I don't have a light in the centre stowage so I'll check this weekend to see if I do have a light and it's not working or whether my version doesn't have a light. Sorry I couldn't be more help.

I have the light .. R231 2015

the light is on at all times, regardless of whether the exterior lights are on

the light is in the recessed bit at the top of the left edge (probably right edge too but didn't think to look)
