R320 Tow Bar costs?

transmission specialist - hmm, really?! never heard of one of those! I am in cornwall but the car is in sussex

Sorry meant to ask, am I right in thinking the fuel economy will be much the same across those 3 platforms?

Pity about the gearbox, and a worry given the mileage. I've looked at GLs a few times in the past, but I'm not really a fan of 4x4s in the more conventional sense. If I'd had a long term hankering for an R class, I'd have spent more and gone for a facelift 350, but as a short term toy, I had no idea if was going to like it or not. I prefer my E500 estate as a daily driver.

I didn't know there was any difference between 320 and 350 except for the name. I have looked at both and can't see the difference

thanks yes i have seen the published figures, just never trust them so more interested in real reports.

Hmm, they are giving car to their "friend". So much for my "holding deposit", doesn't seem to have "held" very well!
Oh well, moving on now as can't be bothered with another argument with a dealer.
Quick question in case anyone knows - I have never had vehicle inspections done (AA, RAC etc). I am considering it for next buy, a detailed AA check for £275 which is costly but because of tyhe distance from me to most dealers I think it is worth it. Does anyone know if these are worth their salt, and if they check diagnostics for errors/faults?

There are plenty about. Modern automatic transmissions are complicated pieces of kit and require specialist knowledge to work on them, so worth seeking out a specialist.

Sorry to hear the car fell through. Good news is, that means it wasn't the right car for you. Possibly a tall story to put you off too.

I have seen one which looks a contender (R320). It has the auto pack tailgate option (electric operated). I don't really want that ideally, just sounds like more to go wrong. Can anyone tell me if this is a typically problematic issue or do they tend to work well and last well? I am assuming that if the motor goes (or any other electrical fault with it) you can't push the boot lid down by hand, would that be wrong to assume?
Thanks

Thanks for help chaps, I now have an R320 - see my thread My new R Class :)
