Hi,

I am having problems with my 2007 Mercedes R320 CDI Sport.

If you are in a traffic jam or leave the car running on idle for 5 minutes or more, you start to get an acrid burning smell from the exhausts and then it starts producing white/blue smoke from the exhaust pipes.

When driving off after it starts smoking, there is literally plumes and plumes of smoke following the car until it seems to burn off.

Secondly when i put my foot down and it kicks down a gear, there seems to be more smoke/dust/puff than there should be.

I took it to a garage they said it was a turbo issue, so i had the turbo changed and the problem still exists.

I took it back to the garage and they said it was a breather pipe problem, so i had the breather pipe changed and the problem still exists.

I took it back to the garage again and they've said it is a turbo problem again with oil going into the turbo via a faulty bearing.

I have a video of the car smoking after sitting in traffic for 10 mins or so.

I also have videos that the garage sent me of the faulty turbo.

I am sick of going back and forth from the garage and want to get this resolved ASAP.

Has anyone had the same problem ?

Can anyone help ?

Regards

My first suggestion is use a different garage!
Are they MB specialists/dealership?
Get any error codes read from STAR.

My second thought was, is the car trying to do a DPF regen?

Hi,
They are MB specialists.
1 Error code was air mass sensor.
I dont know what DPF regen is ?

Diesel Particulate Filter. Traps carbon particles from exhaust, when it starts to get full it needs to regenerate. Engine automatically runs with xs fuel to burn it off , usually at over 3000 revs I think, but you do need to give the car a good fast run for 15/20 miles. They can regenerate when in traffic , they start idling faster 800/1000 rpm and you can probably smell the hotter exhaust gases. But lots of smoke , I think not, sounds like another problem. You need to check with your garage to see if your car has a DPF, my 2008 E class and 2007 ML models did not have one but they were fitted to some models earlier

Sounds like a failed DPF or differential pressure sensor problem. Assuming that you car has one fitted of course, you need to get it to a Merc specialist to get a proper diagnosis. I had a similar problem with a sprinter that had a non genuine DPF fitted, it smoked very badly every time the regen cycle started.
