Generally I drive pretty much under the speed limit, but occasionaly have a blast or generally just creep over the limit.

Are any of these radar things worth having?

I can get an older model Snooper for around £50

or this new Snooper Sapphire for £100

Its just added bit of warning, as I'm not expecting it to mean I an swan round and it just beeps at any sign of a camera etc.

If they are useless then let me know. If you have one can you say which one and cost please as I've no idea.

Seems to be a few speeding threads lately (myself included...45mph indicated in a 40 zone awaiting any nasty post :(

I may be wrong but I have always assumed they are linear in operation. If you are coming round a wide arch or a bend with a hidden camera or speed gun round the bend it won't be much use. On a straight line on an A road or M-way..maybe.

Best defence I find is Laser park Pro to defeat the mobile camera vans and TOMTOM with Pocket GPS world camera database to wan of Gatso SPECS fixed post cameras etc. The Snooper database is widely accepted as being unreliable and missing a lot of sites, Just my thoughts but proven over many years

I'll second that, TomTom with pocketGPS camera database for all fixed cameras and warns of mobile sites too.

You can set the warning for any distance you prefer from camera position, and get spoken warning of camera speed limit in advance.

Cheers all

I have tomtom (6) on my Orbit phone, looks like I will update the camera / warning sites and just use that.

Tend not to use it for short ish journeys but may be worth while

Ive got both radar and still have a pogo alert.

Radar detector is something that goes off all the time but you do learn to take heed from the warnings as they are obvious if they are real. Just sharpens the reactions as something is amiss. Ive got 2 valantine 1's at just over £600 each and tbh they are the dogs and never miss a trick.

I use laser diffusers! The one i`ve got doubles up as a parking sensor(crap but a get out clause if the old bill stop you and ask what it is!!) Have been hit a couple of times with it but just slow down and switch it off.

I used to run a Beltronics Euro 550 but became irritated by it sounding off all the time! The radar detection works off reflected signal, so sitting at a traffic light with a camera on it was most annoying, however working, as it has to, off reflected beams it will pick up camera's round a corner.
As for laser detectors it's only going to warn you once you've been clocked, it did work over almost one half a mile on one occasion. But always line of sight.

Road Pilot Micro Go is my favourite, you can adjust the backlight colour to match your interior too.
Very small and neat.

Cheap at Halfords at the moment too.

No point in having a laser detector if you get an alert at above the speed limit you've already been caught, see bigbobs cl post above exactly what I use and how I use it. If only I could find a way around SPECS ( without changing the plates) then that would make me even happier

Where do I find these parking sensor ones..... :)

Like the Road pilot so far as its so small.

Currently just updated my tomtom with all the camera etc so thats better than nothing
