While driving with music on weather cd radio after a while the volume cuts off. Radio is still turned on but no audio comes from it.
Once I switch it off and wait some time then it will come back on. Quite frustrating when driving some distance.
The radio is the single tape with 6 cd changer under the hazard light switch.
Any help in what to look for please?

Sounds like it's overheating, or you've got it connected to a Bluetooth device maybe?

Looking at posts on these cars audio systems they are no easy just just replace with a different decent one.

If I turn off engine and restart the volume comes back on

possible a speaker blown causing it to short out ?, have you tried putting something bassy on and moving fader from speaker to speaker to see If one sounds caput ?

Will try that later today. Thanks for your input any ideas on sorting this is greatly appreciated.
I'd really like to ditch all this gateway audio garbage and have a decent bit of audio installed.

Checked all speakers to see if blown but all sound ok.
I did however find water in the boot and the 3rd brake light rubber surround broken, was wondering if the water was getting in there and caused some problem with the stereo.

Do you have telephone pre-wire? Not unknown for the telephone module auto mute to misbehave...

Yes it does have the phone cradle thing. Is there a way to disarm it so I can see of that's causing the issue. Judging by the water in the boot I'm hoping once everything's dried out things should return to normal but I'm just dreaming.
