Former world champion Kimi Raikkonen will not be racing in Formula 1 next year after failing to find a drive.

He priced himself out of the market, Ferrari have paid him $17 Million for the season if he didn't get a drive and $10 Million of he did......His manager waqs negotiating as though this money didn't exist.

Silly boy, you're only as good as your last season.....if you're not even in the season, you're part of history.

No matter how good this guy is He always struck me a pay check driver.

It's worth bringing up that the management outfit will be on a percentage.

So the deals that they broker with both sides are subject to a certain amount of persuasion and coercion.

The same probably applies to Mr. Button. If his manager is looking to get a % of say $5million vs $10million which deal is he going to push to his client?

Of course they do...but come on....all the current deals in the pit lane are £5, £6 Million or so and he's looking for silly money like $25 Million a year.

So now the agent gets 10% of nothing....nice negotiating.....

He's probably better off at rallying, much more interesting sport. He might not make the same money but he ll have more fun.

I wonder how long it took for Citroen team boss Olivier Quesnel to come up with this pun-tastic sentence
"Red Bull's commitment and energy are a perfect fit for Citroen's ongoing thirst for victory,"

The amount that he is being paid is $20m for not driving! and he can't agree a finacial deal to drive elsewhere! Piggy little Fecker.

Ferrari paid him Eur 17m under an existing contract, in effect not to race for them in 2010 in order to make room for Alonso.

However, he could still have got another drive but then he would "only" get Eur10m compensation from Ferrari. So unless his new drive was going to stump up Eur 7m or more why bother?

In fact, why not just take the full whack and just go do something else for a bit?

Pure greed at it's worst.
Why?

Ferrari entered into a contract with him but wanted out so that they could give Alonso a seat. Under the terms of the contract Kimi is paid €17m to not compete in F1 if they don't let him drive for them. I'd say he (and his manager) were actually rather astute when they negotiated the contract originally. And by comparison with a "top Banker" who received a circa $40m bonus in 2008, I'd say Kimi's quite good value.

Ferrari were indeed very happy to pay Kimi $17 million to ease him out, and bring in the prefered driver Alonso. Why bother doing that if Raikkonen was seen to be up to the job in the first place?
Raikkonen has been shown up for what he is- over priced and under performing.

Bankers on the other hand are a different breed of animal entirely.

Ferrari were probably happy to keep him anyway, but maybe they didn't want to extend his contract which may have been a point. But he could certainly have driven for them next year.

If they were, or are paying that much not to drive, then that actually shows his value. If he was a numbskull, they would have let him go.

In fact, in Ferraris position, they would have offloaded him before now.Top teams don't keep problems!
