Hello!

Yesterday I very foolishly decided to test the accuracy of the fuel computer in my CLK270 CDI. It turns out it is very accurate, and when it says you have 0 miles to empty, you do!

With assistance from work colleagues, I was dragged off the road and heckled all the way to the fuel station, jerry can of shame in hand.

All is well with the car, but would it now be prudent to replace the fuel filter, and if there is a strainer in the tank, clean that off too?

Regards,

Jon.

Shouldn't have to . If you think about it any rubbish in the tank is always at the bottom where the fuel pick up is , whether you have a full tank or nearly empty.

Unless you are really unlucky and the crud in the tank floats, then it is at the bottom when empty:D:D

As Davidsw says though, you should be ok, and the filter should do its job.

I changed one on a 40k miles car and it was poor condition. The 40k was done over 5yr.

So, let me try to understand this...you're testing the accuracy of the fuel meter?

It's accurate, so you run out of fuel?

You didn't expect this?

You're carrying a gerry can...empty?

:D

I wasn't even carrying a jerry can.... I like to live dangerously.
