We must have been very unlucky with our 20 plus brand new ones owned through the company then!! It was only the bosses blind faith in them and his instance to "Buy British" and "British is Best" (and the fact that the bills went through the company no doubt!) that kept us buying them for so long. Eventually we convinced him to go German....he's never looked back. I'm not saying they are all bad......just that they are worse than many other prestige brands.....just google a few reliability surveys.......Even JLR admitted the issue with build quality/reliability a couple of years back. But if owners on here don't have issues (and who wants to admit they bought a lemon!!)....then that's great and best of luck to them.

I currently have a 2016 Discovery 4 Landmark - purchase when 2 years old ex-LR Management.

Previously I have had Discoverys 2 & 3 and, multiple Range Rovers. I learnt to drive on, my grandmother's Series I - and have continuously had at least on LR since the 1980s when my first LR was a two year old 3.5 litre carburettor vehicle with 3 door & no power steering.

Because of CV19 I have done fewer miles than anticipate in my Disco4, I would replace it with the Disco5, but maybe a Defender 110?

In all these years I have had to rebuild one engine at 230k miles IIRC, fitted new suspension airbags once & have never broken down or been stranded. I've driven all over the continent without a worry.

I do believe in halving the JLR recommended oil change intervals and am fairly obsessive about maintenance generally.

My father in law has had at least one Ramge Rover for last 35-40 years, some of them were bought brand new and some bought secondhand, and in all that time he only had one with any issues.

He bought a late 90s P38 4.6 HSE secondhand when it was a few years old and it had a cooling fault. It took several attempts by a few different specialists to finally sort out.

The whole thing did knock his confidence in the brand though so he sold it and used one of our MLs for a couple of years. He missed the Range Rovers and so he bought a Range Rover Sport.

He’s retired now so he’s kept his current Sport for around 6 years, with no problems. He replaced the battery in lockdown but I charged the original with a CTEK and it has been fine since, so it was just lack of use.

My brother-in-law has also had fault free service from his Sport having had no end of problems with a brand new Touareg and he rejected a brand new Q7 after 2 years of monthly issues.

Based upon their experience Range Rovera seem pretty good!

Don't bother with any oil burners. The RR was designed to have a big FO V8 up front. My 5.0 litre has 510 horses on tap and will destroy most other vehicles when asked. 22mpg not bad either.

I think he was very lucky.....very seldom we did not have a LandRover product go back in for something pretty major.....and often with the first few weeks. Usually ended up being a poor quality component or it was incorrectly fitted. British build quality at its best!

Its quite sad that back in the day things (not just cars) were good BECAUSE they were British.....now if something British made turns out to be good it tends to be said that its good DESPITE it being British made!!
I feel like you’ve never owned one? And saying your boss has 20 still isn’t owning one.

The point is when they’re working, nothing does the job like a Range Rover. The cars aren’t comparable to a GLS as good as a GL is it isn’t a Range Rover. I know as I have owned both and used them in ways that cars like these are intended to be used.

The way a Range Rover and disco4 and upwards in my opinion, selects gears, pulls strong and in utter comfort is something that can’t be matched.

I will say the evoque and disco sport are shite.

I had to change the gearbox ATF and filter in the early days of ownership.
That wasn't the fault of the car, though.
The gearchanges were perfect, but as preventative care, I took it to an indie to have the ATF changed and he used cheap stuff that caused a 2nd to 1st gear clunk.

I hired a ramp and did the change myself using the recommended Lifeguard 6 fluid and the gearbox has been fine until requiring a top up of fluid a couple of months ago.

The ZF tutorial was very helpful.

The body will never come off of one of these cars to do the turbos because it’s a monocoque chassis not a ladder chassis.
My bad, it was a Range Rover Sport

I’ve had the RR itch for a long time - just can’t justify selling a perfectly good X5. I originally liked the sport until I read about some of the jobs that require the body off!

After a lot of research I’d have a 2012 Vogue (Westminster) tdv8 in a heartbeat.

They can’t be that bad, there’s a LOT of them on the road, and the ones for sale tend to have high mileage..

My current car is a Jag and so far never had really had an issue with except 1 but a software update fixed it and all has been good since

I read about some of the jobs that require the body off!
As Gunning has already highlighted the body does not come off the current Sport L494 as its a monocoque

I went to see one a couple of months ago. I really wanted to like it; it was the right colour, rimini red, it was the right age/mileage for my needs, 12 plate 100k and it had the right engine, 5 l supercharged and had loads of toys and suited our needs a a family wagon. I suppose it may have replaced the e55 if we liked it.
It drove fine, went ok, I mean brisk for a big vehicle but it was just huge. Now I have a range rover but mine is a 94 lwb vintage and it made that feel small (and I love it but it's rubbish frankly).
I just couldn't get around the size so sadly I didn't buy it. I still wonder if I made the right decision but I have crossed of FFRR from my options list. Not keen on sports so I guess that's that.

Just read this and yes admittedly its about earlier Range Rovers....

Apparently they used to say, ”There are two man made objects visible from space, the Great Wall of China and the shut lines on a Range Rover”

Are these as bad as I’ve read?

Yes!

I had this lovely V8 Vogue in 2015. It was then 3 years and 30K miles old.
It was a great way to travel, a really nice place to be and covered (or maybe crushed!) any road in a most refined manner.
However, there were 3 x over £1k bills for 'malfunctions' in just 12 months.
That exceeds the total of any non service items I have had on 14 Mercedes cars over a period of 20 years.
Make your own mind up!

As already said my pal owns and runs a 14 plate Autobiography TDV8 and the vehicle is stunning both visibly and to drive/ride in. Garage owner or not, it has been so far no trouble whatsoever in his 18 month tenure.

Secondhand used Land Rovers are dropping in price according to this guy.

Plenty of this ^^^ on line . Mainly aimed at cars kept in London and some other big cities. JLR have apparently dropped any bundled insurance packages with the purchase of a Range Rover 🤷‍♂️. Some refusing cover if the car is not actually/really/properly garaged overnight.
companies

Nice.

The video in post#38 is the one where we are told a bloke parks his £250+K Ferrari on the drive so he can park his £100K RR in his garage so as not to invalidate his insurance
