Not hard really - want to take the monoblocks off the 55 to give them a rub down, fill in a few kerbed marks, clean em up and respray & laquer them

Easy I thought - bought all the stuff then off to my local tyre fitters as I want to do it tyres off - one at a time etc.

the 16" spare does not go over the front caliper and thw wrong size bolts for a the steel wheel so can't even put it on rear.

Come away with wheels as is on the car and a bit fed up.

I'm guessing the only way to do this is buy an 18" spare merc alloy for a w210 ?

I want to get this done - got a few days out and just wanted to finish this last job.

Anyone got one in the garage collecting dust ?

Try asking for the wheel in the title of a new thread. People are going to miss your request at the bottom of this one.

Good luck.

Where abouts are you located Billy?

Might sound a bit long winded but is there no way of taking the wheel off the car at home, putting it on an axle stand and doing each wheel that way. Run each wheel to the tyre place in another car.

I recently repainted all the wheels on my car. Without takeing the tyres off. I did this by doeing them one at a time. After removal, thoroughly wash, ( I use washing up liquid ).Then wipe down, with anti-greasing agent. . Lightly rub down with fine wet & dry & clean. After this, make sure completely dry. Mask of the tyres around the rim. It's important to take your time over this, making sure you mask into the joint, of rim & tyre. Brush touch up with primer, any bad spots & fill as required. The drying time can be hastened with a heat gun. Rub down any filled areas. Give 3/4 light sprays of wheel colour,& leave overnight to dry. Next morning light rub down, & apply, laquer coats. Dry. Refit wheel & do the next. You can carry on with the next one, as & when.
My wheels are silver. So I used, Halfords MB spray cans. Cost £25 for 4 wheels. I am not a professional. But they turned out, near perfect

If you want to paint the wheels with the tyres on wrap them in cling film across the diameter of the tyre and wheel lots of times so it's quite sturdy. Then with a very sharp stanley trim around the rims (front and back) to expose the wheel faces. Tuck the cut edges into the gap between the wheel and tyre. Then sand, fill, sand and paint away!

Easiest way to protect the tyre I've seen.

Personally, for what it costs, I would take the car into a wheel refurb company and get them done properly. The Wheel Specialist will do them in a day for about £70 a wheel and the quality is as good as factory. No hassle that way and perfect wheels.

Looking for a positive from this, at least you know now that your spare is of no help. Better than getting a puncture in the middle of nowhere and then finding out:)

As above, no need to take the tyres off. Use 1" strips of masking tape pushed behind the rim and you will get just as good a finish and save your expense of having tyres removed and then refitted and balanced.

You should be able to jack the car up and leave it on stands and do all4 at once.

May be worth sorting a spare out also....sods law you will never need it if you do though ;)

most AMG 18`s will fit, i would start trawling ebay and likes for a cheap 18" mono, make sure you get a front one (which will also fit the rear, rear one will not clear the front)

You could look at this a different way:- it could be a dark wet night. miles from home, with a flat tyre good job you found this out now.

Cheers all for the replies - quite shocked actually that the OEM 'spare' does not fit the front - ok spacesaver on the rear yes - but this is a steel rim with a full size tyre on it > Doh @ mercedes.

Was talking to Will on this - for what it's going to cost I didn't realise that a pro refurb was so cheap so probably going to go down that route.

Definately going to get a front monoblock as a spare tho.

Thx again
