- 1979 R107 280 SL / Lotus Exige 420 / R231 facelift SL 63 WANTED
I was at an auction this weekend held at Bolesworth Castle near Chester by Hampson Auctions.
They had a black 2004 R230 SL 65. The car had 118k miles and a total of 7 owners. Last owner since 2019 but only covered 3k in that period. Interestingly the car did 82k in its first 4 years by 2008 so first owner used it well!
As some of you know, I am on the hunt for a facelift R231 SL 63. I have however always liked the V12 cars so thought to pop along and see on the off chance it really appealed given they are very rare. Not the car for me however, the wife wasn’t keen and I want a car to use more than I likely would in one of these. Nonetheless great to see.
Sold for £21,000 then with 15% on top including VAT auction fees for a total of £24,150.
It did need an alloy refurb and have rust starting to come through on the arches. Then you’re at the mercy of whether it is mechanically sound or not. Still, a rather nice car with loads of presence and I personally loved the red interior on black. And that’s from someone who doesn’t like black cars!
A nice SLS seen in the carpark, and the show stopper for me was the Phantom. Photos don’t do justice to the presence that car has! Anyway…Euromillions didn’t come through so that’s for another day…
