Hi,

Recently fixed/oiled/cleaned my blower motor so I've enjoying driving along without crickets in my car.

However, I also notice another noise - it's a lighter ticking coming from somewhere around where the climate control is - maybe even down near where the cup holders/12V is - it's not the noise of the plastic between the central front air vents creaking, that happens sometimes but it's manageable.

It seems like it's coming from inside the console, behind the unit, and pressing on various bits of trim seems to affect it.

Does anyone have any tips on this, is it a common issue etc? Anyone solved it?

Cheers!

Ed

Possibly a worn stepper motor cog ?

A common problem amongst many manufacturers as the plastic cogs tend to wear easily. There is a diagnostic test that check the operation of the motors and air blending flaps. If it is this then it can either be a relatively simple fix or, in some cases, require the dashboard out to fix.

Is that related to the heating? I should have pointed out that it still does it when COMAND and air con are both off!

I'll definitely try to get a recording next time it's doing it. It's quite sporadic, but does seem to be affected by the engine vibrating. Very annoying to track down!

Cheers!

Yes it is related to the heating, the system blends air using moveable flaps to set and maintain temperature. Turning A/C off is not the same as turning the heating system off. A/C cools and dehumidifies the air, the engine coolant supplies the heat.

Hi - sorry yes, I meant I turn the entire heating system off, not just the AC
