Evening all ! I am hoping your combined wisdom can help :)

Ever since picking up my new GLA (automatic) a couple of months back there has always been a faint rattle (some say metallic sounding) on acceleration. It is intermittent and sometimes can be quite evident and other times barely audible if there at all.

It increases in speed along with acceleration and stops as soon as you stop accelerating and is not evident at idle or during braking. Can be noticed in all gears though more evident sub 50mph and when car is under load.

It comes and goes but if pushed I would say it is usually more when the car is colder than once it is warmed up but not always.

Twice though when this has happened and the noise is at it's loudest it has felt like something has slipped and there has been a thud and a shake through the car - the car continues to drive and sorts itself out but the noise is there and for a short while it feels a bit lumpy - both times this has been under acceleration coming off a roundabout up a hill so under load.

It has been to the dealers and also had a MB tech call out at the weekend and on both occasions their diagnostics all say everything is ok and they cannot find anything wrong with it - though in all honesty the dealer had it for a few hours and did a 3 mile road test so hardly thorough !

Can any one shed any light ? Even when the noise is there the car seems to accelerate ok so not sure if it is drive related - some one did advise a/c pulley or tensioner issue as it sounded like an issue they had with their car.

Any advice greatly received as I love my GLA apart from this bl**dy noise and I just want to be sure it is not something about to break !

Hi there I have the exact same problem with my car

its been in with mercedes for 2 weeks where the have recorded the sound, sent it to HQ, done tests, tightened this, done that and its still there!!

they have turned around and said its a "characteristic of the car" - well it wasnt there when i bought it, nor did they advise it was a characteristic!

its getting on my t*ts too much now so i've said unless its fixed its going back. bought a merc not a peugeot (no offence to peugeot owners)

any progress with yours?

I had same problem , a loud metallic rattle when my GLA was driven over 65mph , coming from footwell area. It took 3 visits to local dealer to resolve it. They showed me under the car, the protective shields under the footwell area ,either side ,were knocking against the car when driven at speed. Resolved by a kit of foam pads from Mercedes fitted in between the two. I am told this is a common problem!
Shame Mercedes couldn’t tell us about it first, and correct the problem at first service.

On the subject of annoying noises occurring when driving, my 2016 GLA200d has developed a dull rattle from the rear left quarter when driving along roads which have uneven or rough surfaces. I removed all items from boot and from back seat and still it persists although my wife cannot hear it with radio turned up. I have had the suspension and exhaust mountings checked and no fault was found. I have secured seat belts so they will not rattle. The odd thing is that once somebody is sitting in rear passenger seat on near side the noise is gone. Anybody else got same problem
