Has any one on here had nox sensor updated and realised a drop in fuel consumption ?
Pretty much everyone’s who has unfortunately had it done... :)

They say it needs a new chain and tensioner, can anyone recommend a decent indy around Sheffield ?

Could not find a decent indy around Sheffield, but got a recommendation from this site and went with it. MB Automotive, Loughborough. Only an hour down the M1 from Sheffield. Took it in Tues Morn, Picked it up Wed Afternoon. Total cost £918.36. for Timing Chain, Sprockets, tensioner and injector seals. Car has done over 137.460. Miles. I reckon it will do it again now.

Nice one glad its sorted. What did you think of MB automotive? I have used them for over a year now, only just missed you as mine was in on thursday for its B service.. And they were quite happy that I had already done the fuel, air and pollen filter myself....

Happy motoring..

If the specialist has genuine STAR, then they should be able to selectively update the software on the various bit of your car while avoiding the 'mandatory" ECU update.

Wrong thread MJ?

From what I understand oil leaks from the hydraulic tensioner, which inturn makes the chain slightly slack , its possible some mornings you still have oil in there or it may depend at which position the engine is when it stopped, like vauxhall cam followers would drain if the cam shaft stopped at the top/bottom of its stroke and rested on them overnight.
mines made a funny noise twice now from cold it doesnt sound like chain rattle, so must be the lifters that have drained oil over night

unfortunately pcthrillrider, thats how mine started very intermittent.. but it got worse over time. it started once every couple of weeks until it was every couple of days.

How many miles has yours done? Hopefully its tappets but its not common for them to be noisy on these engines.

i've had cars with chain drives for the last twenty years, never had one fail yet, its like everything mechanical, it can break and sometimes will, So I have had 4 Mercs and two Jags, both Jags did over 180000miles and My olds C230K did over 200000miles, i had one Vito with 120000miles and one with 76000miles and my Viano has 327000miles, also had an Outlander but that was new and we only put 25000 on it, so in essence I see the chains as good
