Rattle :(

If we're talking about the same sound, it seems too high pitched to be coming from under the seat.

It sounds like, imagine (or remember  ) inching a razor blade quickly side to side on a piece of glass at 90 degrees, that squeaky squeal... Is that like yours?

Mines not like that :(

It's more of a low pitch tapping noise.

I can't think what could be causing yours.. is the glovebox lid loose?

Ooh, different noises then. We're just pissing on each other's chips here. Or rather I am, it's your thread.

Hope you find yours, if it's a low tapping, then getting someone else driving and fiddling around might be easier to find as it should stop as soon as you touch whatever it is? It's not the passenger seat belt buckle tapping the B pillar is it?

Nah it's either from under seat or glovebox

The squeaking noise must be driving you mad!

I'm wondering if it could be wear on the glovebox door hinges? My C204 bootlid has a rattle of a similar description. I know its at the different end but the symptoms sound similar.

I remember when I removed the air dryer box in the engine bay (that stops rainwater getting pulled in by the interior air fan) that said fan would squeal if lifted up and down on the slack on it's shaft. Maybe it's that, but I ruled that out as the noise does reduce if I hold the glove box lid firmly closed, but maybe that just blocks the sound out a bit more.

Maybe if the OP can get someone else driving, somewhere safe, you could put the passenger seat back all the way down and get on your hands and knees to listen and poke around?

Dont laugh, I had a rattle driving me nuts, turned out to be the sun visor not fully clipped into it's clip after the wife had moved it.

Happy to report the rattle is gone

Bloody thing drove me mad for months :D

It was that plastic under the seat??

Nice one. I've taken a video for the sound of mine, no idea if you can hear it or not. Will see when I get home.

Yeh that stupid control box under the seat. Gonna order some 3m sticky pads and stick it down for good as I'm sure it will loosen up again

Post the video on here maybe someone can work it out :)

Hi guys. I found my w205 to make a similar noise. In my case it seems to come from the passagem and driver air vent and seems to be a "plastic piece loose" loose inside. I have wondered if someone have seen any instructions how to remove/open the air vent so I can inspect if it is definitely a loose piece.

On such a new car I'd be going back to dealership

Happy to report my 14 year old car is rattle free :D

... It's definitely the glovebox. If I lean over and press it while it's doing the noise it reduces or stops.

This is happening on our S205. Probably going to have to take it to the dealer as I haven't yet been able to find anything to adjust, wedge or tweak to make it stop. Opening it or applying a little pressure stops the rattle. Really annoying.

Update - car was in for service yesterday. We told them about the glovebox rattle. Missus went for a diagnostic drive with 'squeaks and rattles' technician. The rattle was acknowledged. During the service, they took the glovebox out and found a loose pawl pin in the lid. Fixed that and we are now (so far) rattle free. :)
