C200 kompressor coupe
Hi all. I find myself here again. Have just noticed a rattling sound when I rev the engine of my C200 2002 kompressor coupe. Sometimes the car drives sluggish and other times it runs fine with no issues. Any advice would be welcome

Hmm...rattling sound when revving, and intermittent power loss. My suspicion would be the primary catalytic converter; the monolith "brick" inside can break up and block or severely restrict the exhaust flow. Just a hunch based on your symptoms.

Thanks Roger. Newbie here, so would sich a replacement even for piece of mine be an expensive job?

Catalytic converters are not cheap to replace.
This is because of the precious metal content.
They can be a difficult item to replace yourself.
I have one of these cars.
There is very limited room to do many of the necessary jobs.

Probably £3-400 for an aftermarket cat? Then labour.

As above, access can be a bit of a fiddle, as can trying to undo 20 year old nuts and bolts unfortunately.

Thanks guys. Greatly appreciated. I don't mind spending on the car. Got it for a good price, so just want to have some fun in it and keep it in good order.

If you can, it might be best to have the codes read when it's misbehaving rather than spend money speculatively.

As above, as it's potentially an expensive job, recommend getting codes read first (before you play 'parts darts')

Might it be just a bracket loose and the increased revs rattling it?
The sluggish may be an unrelated issue (hence get the codes read)

Let us know.....

Check Mercedes Newcastle, Edinburgh or Grangemouth. They post out.

I changed the twin cat pipe on mine. went aftermarket, which didn't quite fit perfectly but the garage wrestled it in and bent a hanger to force it into position. It was £300 for the aftermarket part.

Only to later find out genuine Merc was £300!

Probably too expensive to ship to the OP as he lives in Berlin,

Thanks all. I'll look into all this. Plenty of local mercedes specialists here to choose from. Appreciate all the tips.
